(together now...) "It's Externship Time!"
Today is Gannon's first day at his orthopaedic externship at UC Davis in California. Thus, here I am in California as well - though I'm hanging my hat at the house where I grew up in San Diego. And that means lots of parental and canine TLC to help me through the fiancee-missing process.
Our pooped out pup, Cali, in our backyard
Gannon's staying with some very dear friends of ours who went to undergrad with Gannon at UC Davis, John & Leslie Garcia - some of the most awesome, fun and generous people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. We send them a world of thanks for their hospitality... They have offered him their guestroom, a sweet set of wheels, food, fun, friendship, and the cuddly companionship of their two awesome dogs.
Gannon is in heaven.
Oh and then there's the externship part - the month-long audition showcasing clinical and surgical skills in hope he can secure a spot there for residency. Break a leg, baby!
It's not just Gannon who's performing abroad. A bunch of our friends from Miami have scattered the country: Jenn, my fabulous friend and roomie, was in NYC last month and Baltimore this month for Emergency Medicine; my buddy, Gerry, is right here at UC San Diego, lounging at his beachside abode just itching to hit Stone Brewery during his off hours; our friend Braden will be in San Diego next month; Alexis has flown the coop to NY; etc, etc, etc...
I wish all of you on externships the absolute best of luck. And for those SOs with traveling externs out there - hang in there! And that sentiment goes out to no one more than the wonderful Sigma Omega, Caitlin.
Check out her recent facebook status to see what Caitlin's up against right now:

So first I'm thinking, "Unlike! Unliiiiiiiiiiiiike!!"
Later, though, I find out that her hubby is in Dallas at UTSW for a month and then beelines to UW in Seattle for another month. "I give myself a pat on the back for being a supportive wife :) ," she says. "I'm gonna need my Significant Others!" Three Cheers to Caitlin for having the right idea... not to mention a Super Outstanding SO attitude!
I do declare - that calls for an SO squared!! Wait... and since she is also a Sigma Omega... yet another SO to the third power!
YAY Caitlin!
Wishing safe travels and thoroughly fantastic experiences to all the externs out there!!
