New Doc in the Family

Thursday my older sister, Michelle, added "Ph.D."  to her already long list of professional accolades.  She donned her black gown with velvet striped sleeves, navy and gold hood, and traditional black cap with yellow tassel, and processed with her fellow doctoral grads through the ARC Pavilion at UC Davis in a sea of profs clothed in fluffy medieval-looking frock things and velvet tams.   Three Cheers to Michelle who is already twice published, has lectured at multiple ACSM Conferences around the country, and is now a Doctor of Philosophy in Nutritional Biology.

(Still, it's fun to think of my sis as a Doctor of Philosophy in anything, considering I still have to remind her to keep her hair out of her food and, frankly, she had trouble working the zipper on her graduation gown.  It's nice to know some things never change :D )

The would-be PhD and me circa 1984

And here is the actual moment she morphed into Dr. Michelle Barrack.
(I dunno... she looks the same to me...)

CONGRATULATIONS SIS!!

PS. Is it masochistic that I surround myself with people of infinitely higher academic achievement?
